Case Presentation by Certified EFT Therapist Kieran O’Loughlin: Moving from conflict towards security in an intimate relationship between men

Event Location:
This popular online series offers the opportunity for you to watch and discuss a real couple case, presented by a member of our peer community. MCEFT warmly welcomes Certified EFT Therapist Kieran O’Loughlin.
Couple Presentation
Kieran will present the case of an intimate relationship between two cisgender men who came to therapy with a high level of recurring conflict. Both men had traumatic family of origin experiences in their respective childhoods, including in their relationships with their
fathers. The paternal bond is a sometimes neglected but often crucial consideration in the attachment histories of same gender attracted men. Another important issue for therapy was their development as cisgender men conditioned more to compete with than love other
men. The presentation will explore their pursuer-withdrawer negative cycle (including the secondary and primary emotions triggering and perpetuating it), and then how they slowly worked towards de-escalation and the creation of a more stable, secure and tender bond.
Video recorded excerpts from Stage 1 and Stage 2 sessions will be included to illustrate the case.
