Becoming a Certified EFT Therapist
The International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT) has developed a training and certification process to ensure and verify the level of competence of therapists in the model. The criteria that must be met in order for a therapist to receive EFT certification are based on both observational processes of effective EFT therapy and written requirements. There is also a certification process for EFT supervisors and EFT trainers.
The requirements for certification as an EFT Couples Therapist include:
-
An intensive 4-day basic EFT Externship. In Australia this 4 day course is called “Fundamentals of EFT”.
-
Eight days of intensive training courses in EFT : Core Skills A and Core Skills B are four days each.
-
Consultation/supervision by a Certified EFT Supervisor (minimum of 8 hours).
-
Submission of various written materials and references and 2 different video excerpts demonstrating the therapist’s grasp of the model in Stage 1 and 2. These are reviewed by a Certified EFT Trainer at ICEEFT in Ottawa, Canada.
-
Please note: EFT Externships and Core Skills trainings are designed for mental health professionals and trainees. Participants are required to have achieved a professional affiliation prior to registration in Fundamentals of EFT.
